COUNCIL LEADER KICKS OUT WAKEFIELD STADIUM PLAN

Cllr Mark Crowther, Leader of Wakefield’s Conservative Group commented following the news that Cllr Peter Box has issued what sounds like an ultimatum to the Wakefield Wildcats into sharing a stadium in his own political fiefdom of Castleford.

 

Cllr Crowther said “I am deeply disappointed at how badly Cllr Peter Box has yet again treated the Wakefield Wildcats on this important issue. They have had numerous meetings with him and have been working in the belief that the site at Stanley would be their new home and now this dream opportunity has  been snatched away from them”

 

Cllr Crowther added “The original offer that was made to them was that the Wakefield Wildcats would be granted land to the value of £2million to help with their stadium in Stanley and equally, £2million would be arranged in the same way to support Castleford Tigers for their stadium in Castleford, I would like to know from Peter Box what exactly has changed that now means the Council can no longer support this offer.”

 

Cllr Crowther further added “Cllr Box’s comments in the Wakefield Express (July 16th) linking the stadium issue with the School Building Programme is completely and totally unrelated to this situation and to try to link the Stadium issue with the cuts having to be imposed by the Coalition Government is pure fantasy.”

 

Cllr Crowther went on to say “We fully support the wishes of the Wildcats and their loyal supporters and will do all we can to ensure an equitable outcome for all sides. We will press Peter Box on the unanswered
